| Tribute to My Friend, Hank!
Back in the 70's, I guess you could say, I was somewhat of a star to the community of Scottsdale, AZ. As the chosen
"favorite" entertainer by the snowbirds who flocked to this oasis every winter, I
enjoyed the celebrity, even it it was on a rather small scale. But it gave me the opportunity to meet some of the
most wonderful people I've ever known.
One of them was to become a friend forever. Filing out of the restaurant where I performed nightly, a good-looking
gentleman put a handful of cocktail napkins in my hand, with a shy whisper of thanks. I thought he was handing me
some trash to get rid of until I looked at them; several drawings of me performing.
The next time the gentleman came in, I thanked him and we became instant "buddies",
going out to dinner, to Spring training baseball games, and listening to some of our favorite jazz together. Below
are some of of the drawings Hank made of me during my years in Arizona, and some since I left. I shall never forget
Hank, my friend, who passed away a few days ago of cancer.
